‘Sensual Affair’ by Manish Malhotra at Indian Couture Week – Wedamor
30th July marked the closing act of the renowned Indian Couture Week by none other than the ace fashion designer and the favourite of the young crowd, Manish Malhotra, at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi. The show was filled with a lot of Bollywood faces including Huma Qureshi, Sophie Choudry, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, among others.
The gorgeous collection was titled ‘Sensual affair’ and very rightly so, as each outfit had its uniqueness and charm that struck the audience with awe, and us too of course. With the subtle mix of craftsmanship with glamour, Manish Malhotra (like always) didn’t fail to impress with his star-studded silhouettes, layered motifs, soothing texture and imperial design. Following is his Instagram about this gorgeous collection, “Sensual affair weaves together the subtle nuances of modern artistry with the intricacy of true couture; voluminous, billowing skirts with embroidery art, body hugging corsets and shimmering cascades. The collection is an elaborate selection of 85 exquisite outfits.”
Talking about glitz and glitter, the collection offered some stunning outfits right from Manish’s signature crop and long skirt to velvet capes and endless trails. Fabrics such as silk tulle, micro velvet, satin organza and satin velvet were used. Mixing traditional and western form of silhouettes has always been Manish Malhotra’s thing and it certainly wasn’t missing in this show.
On top of all the glamour already happening at the ramp walk, the heat escalated fast enough when the Young and Gorgeous Bollywood duo, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, came as showstoppers. On talking about his show’s showstoppers, the designer said, “I wanted to do something different; I didn’t want to do a quintessential bridal collection. For me, when you think young, when you are thinking different, you can only think of these two names. They are eclectic, fabulous, talented, they are getting better day by day and they are just superb” and we couldn’t agree more.

Alia Bhatt looked nothing less than a beautiful combination of a diva and a princess in the mind blowing outfit that had everything a woman wants in her life- roses, crystals and of course, an infinite trail. Ranveer Singh also didn’t fail to impress us with his flying-kiss filled entrance on the ramp in a sequinned black sherwani. The pair and their stunning chemistry just stole the show and made us fall in love with them, even more, when Ranveer, as always, brought some humour in and made her laugh just before walking the ramp.
Another thing to love about the collection was the colour pattern. From ivory to vintage rose to a beautiful teal, the outfits, with their design and colours, did justice to the title ‘Sensual affair’.
Talking more about his collection, the designer added,“I just think because there’s so much embroidery, there’s a lot of pearl work, there’s a lot of zari and thread work in this collection, lace, tulle and we have kind of reinvented our can-cans, it’s different…and so many things, so I thought that it would be nicer to go monochromatic because there was so much of embroidery and flair, drama and glamour.”
Manish Malhotra has always been the creative kind in mixing Indian and western and last year at the Indian couture week, his collection was just as gorgeous and mouth dropping as this year starring Deepika Padukone and Fawad Khan. Remember Deepika in the Red Manish Malhotra? S-t-u-n-n-i-n-g.
With amazing designers like Anita Dongre, Anju Modi, Anamika Khanna, Rohit Bal, Shyamal & Bhumika, Varun Bahl, Monica Jaising, Manav Gangwani, Reynu Taandon, Tarun Tahiliani, Rahul Mishra, Gaurav Gupta and last but not the least Rina Dhaka presenting their lovely collections, the Indian couture week of 2017 came to an end and we already miss it. Can’t wait for Couture Week’18!
